The Kitchen and The Ark, Poole Park - Family fun and dining that doesn’t cost the earth

The Kitchen, and sister family attraction, The Ark in Poole Park, are going green with the installation of state-of-the-art solar electricity systems.

Following significant investment, the family-owned business has installed the renewable energy systems as part of an ongoing environmental strategy.

Supplied by local family run company NGPS Ltd, the new solar PV systems offer a ‘green’ alternative to energy generation and consumption. Designed to capture the sun’s energy using photovoltaic (PV) cells, the solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, which is used to power appliances and lighting.

Richard de Lisle, Owner, said: “We are committed to enhancing our ‘green’ credentials and reducing our impact on the environment. Working with NGPS Ltd on this bespoke installation, we’re delighted to be able to harness the power of renewable technologies to achieve a more sustainable business operation. Nestled amongst the beautiful surroundings of Poole Park, it seems only fitting that our business adopts a sympathetic environmental approach; offering first-class family entertainment and dining that doesn’t cost the earth”.

Work is nearing completion….

The Kitchen, which occupies the former ‘Boat Shed’ site on the edge of Swan Lake, will provide a stylish new venue to eat, drink and relax, with stunning panoramic views across the water. The work, due for completion mid-July 2015, will see a completely refurbished interior of the building with a new bar area and kitchen layout, along with landscaping to the surrounding outdoor area, enabling visitors to enjoy alfresco dining.

A new ice cream parlour, Scoops, situated alongside The Kitchen, will be serving a range of ice creams, waffles, crepes, sundaes, milkshakes, teas and coffees.

The ambitious project is the brainchild of Poole husband and wife team Richard and Sarah de Lisle and it is their second major development in the park.

The couple also own the award-winning family attraction The Ark. Opened in December 2013, The Ark is now established as a premier family destination and has recently been awarded a Poole and Dorset Tourism Award in recognition of its outstanding achievements.

Sarah de Lisle said: “The Ark was a real labour of love and something we believe passionately in so we’ve been delighted at how well it has been received by people. For us Poole Park is a magical place with its idyllic setting, family appeal and outstanding natural beauty, so when the opportunity came up to also acquire the Boat Shed we were both really excited”.

“Our aim is to create a warm, friendly and above-all welcoming atmosphere where people of all ages can meet up and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed, stylish environment”.

“There will be lots of indoor and outdoor seating areas and new landscaped spaces to make the most of the truly spectacular waterfront location. We’re also going to have an open-plan kitchen area so people can watch the chefs at work,” she added.

The Kitchen’s menu will be based on quality, local fresh produce sourced from independent farmers and growers and there will be a clay oven serving handmade pizza.

The Kitchen and Scoops Ice Cream Parlour will be open daily from 10am to 6pm, with plenty of free parking available.
